Perenco CEO to Detail Asset Optimization and Drilling Plans at AEW 2025

Cape Town: Perenco’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is set to outline the company’s strategies for asset optimization and upcoming drilling campaigns during the African Energy Week (AEW) 2025 conference. As a prominent producer in key African markets such as Gabon, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and the Republic of Congo, Perenco is poised to discuss the current landscape of Africa’s exploration and production sectors.

According to African Press Organization, Perenco has made natural gas central to its development strategy, with one of its largest projects being the Cap Lopez LNG terminal in Gabon, scheduled to commence operations in 2026. This significant project involves constructing an LNG terminal at the existing Cap Lopez oil terminal, featuring a Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) vessel to monetize offshore gas resources. The FLNG unit, currently under construction in Dubai, will boast a capacity of 700,000 tons of LNG and 25,000 tons of LPG annually, and will include storage facilities with a capacity of 137,000 cubic meters. The $1 billion project, which reached a final investment decision in 2023, marks Gabon’s first large-scale gas development. During AEW: Invest in African Energies 2025, Simondin will provide an update on this project, emphasizing the expected role of natural gas in West Africa.

AEW: Invest in African Energies has become a preferred platform for project operators, financiers, technology providers, and government officials to engage and finalize deals in the African energy sector. More information about this event can be found at http://www.AECWeek.com.

In addition to its projects in Gabon, Perenco is ramping up its drilling activities in the DRC, where it remains the sole major oil producer. The company aims to optimize its assets and increase production. Through its DRC subsidiary, Muanda International Oil Company, Perenco made a significant oil discovery during an offshore drilling campaign in the DRC in 2024. This discovery marks the first offshore find in the country in nearly three decades. The Moke-East well, located between the Lukami and Motoba fields, uncovered a 24-feet net oil-bearing column. Additionally, in Gabon, Perenco spudded an appraisal well near the Hylia South West discovery, made in 2023, in February 2024. This well targets the Ntchengue Ocean (NTO) reservoir and the lower Madiela carbonate reservoir, with results indicating substantial oil-bearing columns in the NTO reservoir.

Simondin’s participation at AEW: Invest in African Energies 2025 will not only provide an overview of Perenco’s vision for Africa’s oil and gas market but also highlight the crucial role independent operators play in the continent’s hydrocarbon sectors. From project updates to future investments and discussions on challenges and emerging opportunities, Simondin’s insights are expected to contribute significantly to discussions about Africa’s oil and gas future.

Perenco is making notable progress in unlocking new oil and gas opportunities in Africa. Through its extensive portfolio of natural gas projects and oil exploration and production, the company is creating valuable opportunities for the countries in which it operates. This portfolio highlights the significance of independent operators in Africa and underscores the vast opportunities available across the continent, as stated by NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber.
