President Tshisekedi Engages with MONUSCO Acting Chief on Eastern DRC Security Concerns

Kinshasa: President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi recently convened with Vivian van de Perre, the Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General, at the African Union City. The meeting primarily addressed the escalating security issues in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and their severe humanitarian impacts on the local populace.

According to African Press Organization, the Acting SRSG emphasized the critical need for the immediate implementation of an unconditional ceasefire, aligning with the directives of Security Council resolution 2773 (2025). She expressed the United Nations' dedication to assisting the Democratic Republic of Congo while honoring its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. The discussions also highlighted support for regional peace initiatives aimed at achieving lasting stability.

This engagement between President Tshisekedi and Vivian van de Perre comes in the wake of Security Council resolution 2808 (2025), which extends the mandate of MONUSCO. The renewed mandate outlines new priorities, including the protection of civilians, support for the execution of resolution 2773 (2025), and assistance in state stabilization and institutional strengthening within the DRC.
