Kinshasa: Central African Republic United Nations (UN) relief chief Fletcher has allocated $3 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) for Ebola readiness efforts in the Central African Republic. The allocation aims to address the heightened risk of an Ebola outbreak in the region due to confirmed cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which shares a border with the Central African Republic.
According to African Press Organization, the funds will be used to enhance surveillance, improve isolation capacity, engage with communities, and increase access to water. These measures are crucial as the Central African Republic is already facing a humanitarian crisis caused by conflict, floods, disease outbreaks, and regional instability. This situation has left approximately 2.3 million people, over a third of the country's population, in urgent need of assistance.
The country's humanitarian appeal for the year amounts to $264 million, but only $112 million has been received so far, leaving the appeal just over 42 percent funded.
