World Bank Group Names Babacar Sedikh Faye as New Country Manager for Burundi

Bujumbura: Mr. Babacar Sedikh Faye has been appointed as the World Bank Group (WBG) Country Manager for Burundi, effective July 1, 2025. His appointment is part of a global initiative by the World Bank Group aimed at unifying and strengthening its representation at the country level. Mr. Faye will be responsible for the operations of all the institutions in Burundi, including the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

According to African Press Organization, Mr. Faye expressed his commitment to enhancing the World Bank Group’s partnership with Burundi. He acknowledged the significant growth and impact of the WBG’s interventions in recent years and emphasized the goal of continuing this growth with increased efficiency and innovation. This approach aims to support Burundi in its efforts to improve living conditions and reduce inequalities among its population.

Mr. Faye’s appointment coincides with the preparation of the Country Partnership Framework (CPF) with Burundi for the next six years. The CPF serves as a strategic framework that aligns the WBG’s interventions with Burundi’s development priorities. Mr. Faye highlighted the CPF as an opportunity for the World Bank Group to integrate its institutions’ efforts to support the government’s ambitions outlined in the Vision Burundi plan, which aims for the country to emerge as a developed nation by 2040 and 2060. He stressed the importance of sustained support for developing a dynamic private sector to drive inclusive and sustainable growth.
