Koosin Plans Reopening of 72 Schools for 2025-2026 Academic Year

Koosin: The High Commissioner of Koosin Province, Noufo Dembele, chaired a significant meeting involving education stakeholders, administrative authorities, and the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) in Nouna, aiming to discuss the reopening of 72 schools for the 2025-2026 academic year.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting focused on restoring basic social services in areas previously affected by terrorism, facilitating the return of primary, secondary, and high school teachers to their localities. The consultation framework addressed major concerns related to the reopening process.

Aime Urbain Bamouni highlighted the achievements and challenges within the Basic Education Districts (CEB) and shared prospects for a successful 2025-2026 school year. The head of the management team reported that 72 schools are in the process of reopening, with 25 schools relocated and 7 preschool centers opening.

Insights into the current difficulties faced by schools were provided by the presidents of special delegations and heads of basic education districts. The commander of the 53rd Commando Infantry Regiment (RIC) presented a detailed map illustrating plans for opening and reopening schools.

Social partners emphasized the need for effective implementation of the consultation framework’s recommendations. Karfa Ferdinand Boni, the provincial director of secondary education, discussed the educational map of the province and potential reopening strategies with security support.

Key concerns of education stakeholders included organizing secure convoys for the safe return of teachers and students. Complaints and requests were directed to High Commissioner Noufo Dembele, who assured that they would be addressed and communicated to relevant authorities.

Mr. Dembele honored teachers who were victims of terrorism with a minute of silence and reiterated the meeting’s objective of coordinating with security officials to facilitate school reopenings. Adama Dao, the provincial director of primary education, expressed gratitude for the meeting and emphasized that the recommendations will guide education stakeholders in Koosin.
